| A Newspapers in Education Feature for Community Papers |
|
What is For the Kid in You?
While experts decry the lack of newspaper reading by today’s youth, the National Newspaper Association is honoring newspapers which raise a new generation of readers. The Oologah Lake Leader has been recognized by the NNA for having the nation’s best weekly Newspapers in Education program and for providing the best educational support program. Judges described the Leader’s work as “a model NIE program for small community newspapers. Circulation, community support, teacher interaction — this newspaper is raising a community of newspaper readers.”
Our teachers requested an NIE feature 10 years ago. Our requirements were tough: less than half a page of space, appropriate for a wide range of ages and subjects, and affordable. Nothing on the market met the need, so we developed For the Kid in You for our own program.
You can use a part of this award-winning program in your newspaper. For the Kid in You, the Leader’s NIE feature, is available for just a few dollars a week. Fellow publishers decided they wanted For the Kid in You for their NIE programs. For the Kid in You now reaches 250,000 readers in 20 newspapers from Oklahoma to Massachusetts.
