Outrunning a Hurricane
Word went out from the National Weather Service in early September that a monster hurricane named Irma was forming and moving toward the Turk and Caicos islands with 175 mph winds. Tracker maps were made showing the possible path of the storm would take it through the Bahamas and make a direct hit on Florida.
Jerry Baker and his wife, Sue were spending time aboard their Hatteras 58 Motor Yacht “Sea Joy” in the beautiful waters south of Florida. They decided it was time to make a fast run to get out of the storms path. Jerry’s Facebook post on Sept. 4, said they were at the halfway point from Key West to Marco and all was well. At that point they were staying ahead of Irma.
