“Mom, there’s no snow!” was a disappointed comment from my five-year-old daughter Sophia as we started driving from Denver airport to Colorado Springs. “No, but there will be,” I said anticipating to find a ski slope where there would be plenty.

The plan was to stay in Colorado Springs for a few of days and move closer to Denver on the fourth day where we’d ski. It was the first time I’d ventured to do something like that here in the U.S. My experience with skiing, well cross country skiing, was measured in several years of skiing in Russia as a PE activity in winter. I had no idea what it would be like here and on a slope, but I wanted my kids to experience it. Our first day was about exploring the Garden of the Gods park in Colorado Springs. Believe it or not, it was even warm enough for the kids to swim in the outdoor heated swimming pool that created an illusion of pouring over the mountain.
